Burnout, depression and suicidal thoughts, I always thought they happened to other people, weaker people, to someone else… until they happened to me.
It didn’t feel like any of those things at the time, it just felt like failing, like not good enough…..broken.
I left dentistry, not knowing if I could ever set foot in a dental surgery again. I took time out to work hard on my own recovery. After a career switch to personal training and nutrition coaching, I wanted to go back. Being a dentist is part of who I am and I was determined to find a way to enjoy it again.
I had felt unprepared for the build up of stresses within my dental career and how they seeped into all areas of my life. I now speak and write to share my experiences, starting conversations to increase awareness of the mental and physical health problems that we face across the dental profession and beyond.
Bringing resilience strategies and lessons from positive psychology to the dental profession.
